For the Interim Period ending September 2001 (April 1, 2001 - September 30, 2001), a consolidated business results forecast was made on May 17, 2001 at the Financial Results Announcement for Fiscal Year 2000, and the table below notes a revision to those forecasts.

Note: Operating Income is forecast to be 37,500 million.

II . The reasons for the revision are noted below:

Sales of the products, ARICEPT and ACIPHEX/PARIET in the U.S. and Europe have increased favorably; the exchange rates (115/US$, 105/EURO) to the Japanese yen have been higher than expected among others which have resulted in a forecast results revision for the interim period. There is no change to the forecast results made previously for non-consolidated accounts.

With respect for the results forecast for fiscal year period, after considering conditions applicable for the remaining half year period, an announcement will be made at the time of the Interim Period Financial Results Announcement in November.
