1936 Toyoji Naito establishes a limited partnership called Sakuragaoka Research Laboratory, which is Eisai's predecessor.
1941 After the purchase of an industrial site in Honjo-machi in Saitama Prefecture, Nihon Eisai Co., Ltd. is established.
1944 Sakuragaoka Research Laboratory and Nihon Eisai Co., Ltd. merge on equal terms under the name of Nihon Eisai Co., Ltd. The Company starts its new life.
1950 The cardiotonic drug NEOPHYLLIN goes on the market.
1951 Nihon Eisai's contraceptive SAMPOON receives official approval from the Japanese government. The Company also gets a head start in the vitamin E market by selling the high-grade JUVELA vitamin tablet and injection formulations.
1953 Sales of the ulcer tablet METHAPHYLLIN begin.
1955 The Company's name is changed to Eisai Co., Ltd.
1957 Eisai reorganizes management by establishing a three-year planning system, under which innovation and strategic planning are emphasized.
1961 Eisai is listed on the first section of the Tokyo and Osaka Stock Exchange and enters the bulk market for animal drugs.
1966 Founder Toyoji Naito becomes Eisai's chairman, and Yuji Naito succeeds as Company president.
Kawashima Industrial Park is completed in Gifu Prefecture.
1967 Eisai begins marketing JUVELA NICOTINATE, a microcirculation activator.
1969 The Naito Foundation is established.
1970 The Company celebrates its 25th anniversary at the Kawashima Industrial Park.
Toyoji Naito resigns as chairman and becomes honorary chairman.
Prescription pharmaceutical manufacturing and sales company established in Indonesia
1971 The Naito Museum of Pharmaceutical Science and Industry is opened.
1973 After a name change, SAHNE CREAM goes on sale.
1974 Eisai introduces the metabolic cardiotonic drug NEUQUINON to the market. Prescription pharmaceutical sales companies set up in Malaysia and the Philippines.
1977 Sales of JUVELUX, a natural vitamin E tablet, commence.
1978 METHYCOBAL, a peripheral neuropathies remedy, goes on sale.
1979 Eisai Asia Regional Services Pte., Ltd. is established in Singapore.
1980 Construction is completed on the main wing of Kawashima Research Laboratory.
1981 The Misato Plant is completed and begins full-scale operation as a GMP-certified operation. Eisai USA Inc. is established in California.
1982 Eisai completes construction of the Tsukuba Research Laboratories, a state-of-the-art facility, and begins full-scale operation.
1983 Eisai Chemical Co., Ltd. is established, with the Kashima Factory beginning full-scale operation the following year.
1984 Eisai begins marketing SELBEX, a drug for gastritis and ulcers.
1986 Construction of the No. 3 Pharmaceutical Plant at the Kawashima Industrial Park is completed.
AZEPTIN, an anti-allergy preparation, goes on sale.
1987 Eisai changes from a three-year mid-term planning system to a five-year strategic plan.
The Company establishes a network of 21 branch offices.
The Bogor Factory in Indonesia becomes operational.
Eisai Research Institute of Boston, Inc. is established in Massachusetts, US.
1988 Eisai America Inc. is established in New Jersey, US.
Eisai Europe Ltd. is established in London, UK.
1989 Eisai Machinery GmbH is established in Cologne, Germany.
Eisai Pharma-Chem Europe Ltd. is established in London, UK.
1990 The Health Care Science Institute is established. Eisai London Research Laboratories, Ltd. is established in the UK.
1991 Eisai Distribution Co., Ltd. is established.
Eisai celebrates its 50th anniversary.
Eisai Hong Kong Co., Ltd. is established.
1992 Eisai London Research Laboratories, Inc. opens, establishing a multipolar network in Asia, America and Europe.
Eisai Corporation of North America is established in New Jersey, US.
1994 The non-ionic contrast medium IOMERON goes on sale.
1995 Eisai begins marketing GLAKAY, a soft capsule-form vitamin K2 remedy for osteoporosis.
New marketing subsidiaries established in the US, the UK, and Germany.
A representative office is opened in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
The Company also issues sponsored American Depositary Receipts (ADR) for the over-the-counter market.
1996 Elmed Eisai Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of value-added generics, is established. New marketing subsidiary established in France.
Eisai Suzhou Pharmaceutical Co,Ltd. is established in Suzhou, China.
The Global Research Committee is established in Massachusetts, US.
1997 Eisai launches PARIET, a new proton pump inhibitor for peptic ulcers. Marketing of ARICEPT, an Alzheimer's disease treatment begins in the US., the UK. and Germany.
The process research facility is completed in the US.
Eisai Korea, Inc. is established.
1998 Myocardial Infarction Treatment "CLEACTOR" launched. Alzheimer's treatment ARICEPT launched in France.
Pariet, a proton pump inhibitor, launched in the UK. and Germany.
Production & Shipment Commencement of ARICEPT, an Alzheimer's Disease Treatment, begins in US.
1999 Alzheimer's treatment ARICEPT launched.
Kawashima Plant receives ISO14001 certification.
ACIPHEX, a proton pump inhibitor, launched in the US.
2000 PARIET, a proton pump inhibitor, receives H. Pylori eradication indication in the EU.
2001 "Don't Surrender to Dementia"   Website Opens.
Environmental and Social Report 2001 released.
PARIET receives approval for the treatment of symptomatic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in EU.
2002 ACIPHEX receives approval for the treatment of symptomatic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in US.
ACIPHEX , proton pump inhibitor, first seven-day treatment of H.pylori infection approved by FDA.
2003 PARIET receives approval for maintenance therapy for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Eisai transfers veterinary and livestock feed products business to Meiji Seika.
2004 Spin-off of Machinery Division.
"Company with Committees System" is adopted.
Eisai splits off its Food Additives and Chemicals Division into a newly incorporated subsidiary.
Marketing subsidiary established in India.
European regional headquarters established in the UK.
2005 Corporate mission is added to articles of incorporation. Marketing subsidiaries are established in Switzerland, Italy and Sweden.
2006 R&D Division's management functions are spun off. Eisai Clinical Research Singapore Pte. Ltd. and Marketing subsidiary in Singapore are Established.
2007 Sanko Junyaku Co., Ltd. is made a wholly owned subsidiary. Morphotek, Inc., biopharmaceutical company is acquired.
2008 Rheumatoid Arthritis Treatment "HUMIRA" launched. MGI PHARMA, INC. biopharmaceutical company is acquired.
