As a human health care (
hhc) company, we put patients and their families first in our thoughts, contribute to increasing the benefit they receive, and adhere to compliance in our daily operation.
We are committed to the creation of “patient value.” We believe that the creation of “patient value” lies in “satisfying unmet medical needs,” “ensuring a stable supply of high-quality products,” and “provision of information of drugs' safety and efficacy.” We are confident that revenue and earnings will be generated as a consequence of the fulfillment of our mission to “create patient value.” We place importance on this positive sequence of the mission and ensuring results. This is the way we do our business, and the way the Articles of Incorporation govern.
Fiscal 2008, or the fiscal year ended March 31, 2009, was a year in which we further increased our efforts on the corporate concept articulated in our Articles of Incorporation—increasing patient value. As a result, we have redefined our business activities based on our new concept of product creation and demand innovation, moving forward from such fundamental aspects as R&D, production, marketing, and administration. Product creation entails “understanding the emotions and realities of patients and their families, providing innovative means of solving those issues, and making it our mission to implement those means.” Demand innovation requires “understanding the priorities of the apparent and latent issues that customers have; preparing a package of products, information, services and networks to proactively address those issues; and thereby improving the quality of life.” Because understanding patients' realities is the key to both concepts, we consider it extremely important to relentlessly strive to achieve such understanding. During fiscal 2008, many Eisai employees in Japan visited nursing facilities and participated in activities to help people out at those facilities. We plan to continue our two-way communications initiatives and assistance measures involving people at nursing facilities.
In light of the subprime loan and other issues causing sharp fluctuations in the global economy and other factors, it appears that we are entering a highly turbulent era. Amid these conditions, we at Eisai are doing our utmost to realize the corporate concept articulated in our Articles of Incorporation with emphasis on three goals—creating innovative new drugs, maintaining stable supplies of high-quality products, and providing appropriate information. In these ways, we are sustaining progress with respect to our one and only objective of increasing patient value.
